Zac Posen To Show In Paris?

We were pretty surprised when we got yesterday’s WWD Fashion Flash and saw the subject line, “Zac Posen May Show In Paris.” Zac Posen, he who was bored and raised in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood and who just lent his name and decorating skills to a 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom duplex model apartment in the Flatiron? Zac Posen who spent three years being mentored by Richard Martin, the curator of The Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art? Yes, that Zac Posen. And why?

WWD was tipped off by a visitor to Posen’s showroom Thursday who said the designer told them he’d be showing his Spring 2011 collection in Paris where “they understand [his] clothes.” Posen apparently also mentioned some difficulty securing an ideal time slot.

WWD writes:

When called today for details…[Posen] said nothing had been decided, but that “doing a fashion show in New York with today’s climate, is difficult.” He added that in Europe, “my clothes are respected.” Meaning that such is not the case in New York? “It’s not just about respect,” Posen said. “It’s about the work the work I do, and who wears the clothes.”

We know a lot of designers aren’t happy about Fashion Week’s move to Lincoln Center, but we’re surprised Posen would be the first to announce a move. Also: he sounds like he’s being kinda petulant.
