In-between collections — pre-fall and resort — are typically more commercial than what we see on the runway during the fall and spring shows. They are considered safer, less dramatic. Thankfully, this was not the case with Zac Posen‘s latest collection. Gowns for everyone!
We snagged a peek at Posen’s pre-fall 2012 collection at his showroom on Friday, and we were stunned by all of the gorgeous dresses in sumptuous fabrics. Sure, there were shorter skirts and dresses, as well as tops and pants, but gowns are Posen’s hallmark. There are boxed shoulders and velvet gloves, mountains of tulle and bejeweled straps — these pieces are practically begging to be worn to the Met Gala. We’re also huge fans of his evening separates.
Posen describes the collection as “American Royalty takes a trip east”, and cites “’50s American couture, Charles James, and Cristobal Balenciaga” as inspirations. We can’t pick a best look, but we’ve compiled our favorites (modeled by the gorgeous Hilary Rhoda) in the slideshow below. Behold, gown porn:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
