You can’t buy Kate Middleton’s custom Jenny Packham hospital dress, but you will be able to buy the Issa blue wrap dress she wore when she announced her engagement to Prince William back in 2010. At least you will if you have no other plans for the morning of August 8 and aren’t opposed to having physical altercations with other women on the shop floor of Banana Republic.
The high street store has just released the first look at its collaboration with the brand Kate made world famous. There are cardigans and tops, too, but the only thing we really care about is how closely their reimagining of that now-iconic dress resembles the original. And for a very reasonable $100 (the 100% silk original was $865) we are the complete opposite of disappointed.
The almost-exactly-the-same Banana Republic version (pictured above) is fashioned in jersey and slated as a daytime dress, but other than that it’s pretty much identical. There’s also a sleeveless version in royal blue ($115) as well as the engagement dress in plum ($100). The collection will be sold in 700 international stores and will also be available to purchase from the safety of your own computer screen.
You know what they say – if the dress fits, buy it in every color. And if it doesn’t, just sell it for an exorbitant sum on eBay.
