Every modern fashion lover remembers the moment he or she fell in love with clothes — and for us, that moment happened about two minutes into the 1995 movie Clueless, when Cher Horowitz uses her fully automated and computerized closet to get dressed before school.
Fifteen years later, and we haven’t gotten any closer to a robotic wardrobe than our dad’s electric tie rack. But, thanks to Ilaria Urbinati, who owns the Los Angeles boutique Confederacy, we can get a little piece of Clueless history for ourselves. Urbinati talked to Daily Front Row about getting Francisco Costa to make the dress:
I went into a spazzy explanation of how my formative-years love of Calvin was partly based on the little white Calvin mini dress Alicia Silverstone wears in Clueless. I re-enacted the entire scene for him (you know, ‘Cher, what are you wearing?’ ‘A dress!’ ‘Says who?’ ‘Calvin Klein!’ ‘Well, go put something over it!’ ‘Duh, I was just going to!’ and then she comes out with the clear trench). So of course I said, Francisco, you need to remake that dress.
The ‘Cher’ dress is now available at Confederacy for $916. Well done, Miss Urbinati.
