When it comes to English icons, David Bowie and Paul Smith are right up near the top of the list. So it stands to reason that the official t-shirts Smith designed for Bowie’s highly anticipated new album, The Next Day, are going to become collector’s items the instant they’re released later this week. Not to mention the fact that they’re just plain cool tees.
You’ll recognize the cover image from the musician’s iconic Heroes album cover photographed by Masayoshi Sukita, which has been updated for 2013 by artist Jonathan Barnbrook. The tees will be available for purchase tomorrow on PaulSmith.co.uk for £70 in anticipation of the the album’s March 11 launch date.
“David Bowie has worn a lot of Paul Smith throughout his career,” the designer says on his website, “and I was excited and delighted when asked if I would do the official T-Shirt for his album The Next Day. They’ll also be some other great things coming up later in the year.” Jumpsuits, perhaps? We can only hope.
