Because rich people’s kids need clothes, too, Fendi recently debuted its children’s collection here in the United States. The Italian luxury label designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi celebrated the launch of the collection last night with a runway show featuring 6- to 8-year-old boys and girls from what we’re guessing are pretty well-off families. And we guess that because nearly every one of the children’s mothers were there, sparkling behind loads and loads of luxury products. The Birkins alone could have paid for our first two years of college.
The introduction of Fendi’s kid’s clothes makes sense right now. With the economy turning around and wealthy people feeling less and less guilty about their liquidity, and with a relatively new Gucci kid’s collection making its way to well-heeled department stores and boutiques all across affluent America, a little healthy competition couldn’t hurt. It also couldn’t hurt to hook a few kids on the brand now so that they’ll keep buying it when they get older. It’s an investment in the future, when you think about it.
All in all, the show was cute, with lots of kids walking around in well-made clothes to the applause and delight of their adoring mothers. Gossip Girl‘s Kelly Rutherford was spotted at the event with her little boy and girl in tow, and stylist June Ambrose brought her two daughters along, too.
