Last year, Patrick Robinson decided to revamp Gap’s denim collection. Now, he is apparently doing it again with the newly launched Premium Pant collection. Trying to keep up with J.Crew, are we?
The pants were designed to feel and look more high end. Robinson told WWD that while the Premium line will still have all of the attributes of a pant that we expect from Gap, they are intended to be worn at more “high-stakes events.” Who knows? Maybe he’ll walk a pair down the red carpet of the Met Costume Gala that Gap is co-hosting. After all, the Gala’s theme is American Women, and what’s more American than a good pair of well-priced khakis?
The pants may look more expensive and have the word Premium attached to their name (according to Robinson “everything looks like it costs four to five times the price”), but the collection only runs up to $59.50. Gotta love Gap pricing.
The collection is composed of seven women’s styles; everything from a Really Skinny cut to a trouser to a baggy Boyfit and a Curvy cut. Men will have three looks to choose from: a tailored khaki, a classic khaki, and a standard fit.
“Giving the customer something to wear seven days a week has been the goal for the Gap brand,” Robinson told WWD of the collection. “With this, the base of the brand is now in place.”
Given J.Crew’s wild success in the last few years, it’s no wonder that Gap has to make some changes to keep up with its ex-sister store. So would you go to Gap to buy your next pair of fancy pants? We say, why not? If the fit looks anywhere as good on us as it does on the models from the lookbook, we’re in for a real treat.
