Gilt Understocks, Oversells Their Target Sale

We got excited when we heard that Gilt Groupe would be selling Target‘s super cool collaboration products a little earlier than they’d be available in stores, and it looks like we weren’t the only ones. So many people ordered the stuff that Gilt has actually oversold its inventory.

A friend of the blog Racked NY forwarded them an email from Gilt saying that she wouldn’t be getting the John Derian plates she’d ordered. The cause of the problem? An inventory error that caused the Gilt system to think it had more of those plates than it actually did. So instead of the plates she wanted, she’ll be getting a $25 credit.

The other Target sales on Gilt haven’t started yet. There’s one for the chain’s collaboration with Mulberry which starts Sept. 12 and another for Tucker clothing on Oct. 10, WWD reported earlier this month. We hope that those sales won’t be plagued by the same problems. (In the meantime, did anyone who made an order in this sale get a similar e-mail?)
