Remember when Karl Lagerfeld forwent his eponymous label’s Fashion Week show in favor of working on his “masstige” line? Yeah, well that project is coming to fruition, and the collection will be available at Macy’s next fall. We kid you not. We’re (understandably!) freaking out about it.
According to our friends at UnBeige, Macy’s has struck a deal with Karl’s brand to sell an “affordably priced ready-to-wear line that will range from jeans to gowns.” And as we noted back in September, there will be a huge e-commerce component. Said the ever-quotable Karl: “I wanted this for a long time. I prefer to work in another way. I can’t compete with Chanel. I don’t want to be the poor child of myself. This has been my vision for years.”
This excites us immensely. We didn’t get our hands on any of Lagerfeld’s stuff for H&M back in 2004, and now’s our chance. Plus we can buy it online! And it won’t just be a one collection deal! Amazing. Macy’s and Lagerfeld will be working with sourcing company Li & Fung, which produces lines for Rachel Zoe, P. Diddy and Jennifer Lopez.
This certainly jives with Lagerfeld’s idea of the “new snobbism,” when rich people buy poor people things (or something like that) and vice versa. Semi-relatedly, we think it’s awesome that a blog got this scoop. What say you, WWD? New media FTW!
