The general consensus among consumers is that they’re over Target‘s designer collaborations, and the most evident sign was the less-than-successful CFDA and Neiman Marcus partnership for the holidays. But Target is still going at it, and has just tapped major Hollywood stylist Kate Young on a limited-edition line.
Young designed a line of separates, semi-formal and formal frocks, and accessories that will launch in stores and online April 14, with prices ranging between $14.99 and $89.99. The collaboration with Young is very much like previous ones with Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung, the latter of which hasn’t even launched in stores yet, where instead of falling under an umbrella like the original Go International collections or The Shops at Target, the designers have their own “stand-alone” collections with the company.
A spokesperson told WWD that Young is an “untraditional partner” for the company, and explains:
“This is another example of how we continue to challenge the status quo. This program is markedly different. This is the first time we’ve worked with a stylist. It’s interesting [to work] with someone that may not have formal training. It’s the first time a limited-time collection has been so focused. We always wanted to do a line of semiformal and special occasion dresses. Here’s someone that creates jaw-dropping moments.”
But for Young, the project was a natural progression in her career. According to a press release, Young has always wanted to work with the company:
“I’ve been working with Target for a number of years as a stylist, so having the chance to design my own collection with a brand I already know and love is like a dream come true. With this collection, I wanted to design standout pieces that allow women to experiment with fashion and create their own red carpet moments.”
She also told Refinery29:
“Target is known for its ability to create on-trend collections that are affordable, which has always been a dream of mine. I’m excited for the opportunity to challenge myself as a designer and introduce a collection to an entirely new audience. The collection is about allowing all women – regardless of their budget – to experiment with fashion and have fun with the pieces. With everything from special occasion dresses to satin shorts and blazers, this collection really does have something for everyone.”
