Could it be true? Could a Lady Gaga capsule collection for Alexander McQueen really be in the works?
Though they don’t cite any sources, Fashionising.com reports that the Alexander McQueen label is collaborating with America’s favorite Fame Monster on a collection for Spring 2011.
PPR, who own half of the McQueen fashion house, however, are said to be keen on Gaga’s involvement due to the commercial viability and cohesion between both the brand and the performer. As the Wall Street Journal revealed in February, McQueen considered Lady Gaga his “unofficial muse.”
That sounds like as good a reason as any! Our guess is that Gaga’s collection would be similar to McQueen’s McQ collection, with lower price points to take advantage of the aforementioned “commercial viability” — which is to say: mass-market appeal.
Fashionising offers one more interesting tidbit: “the collection is being fleshed out under the working title of ‘Poisson D’Avril’, a reference to the thematic poison present in Lady Gaga’s Telephone video clip.”
UPDATE: Jenna Sauers at Jezebel makes a clever, clever point. Poisson d’Avril — the rumored name of the line — is oh-so-conveniently French for April Fools. Consider us fooled.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
