LVMH Now Owns At Least 20 Percent Of Hermès

LVMH just won’t quit! Even though Hermès formed a holding company to fend off an impending takeover by LVMH, Bernard Arnault‘s retail giant now holds 21,338,675 shares of Hermès.

According to WWD, this means LVMH “has crossed the threshold of 20 percent of shares of Hermès International.” We don’t quite know if this makes a huge difference in terms of a takeover, since the holding company formed by the Hermès family reportedly owns 73% of Hermès’s capital. While it’s possible LVMH will buy the remaining unaccounted for 7%, its shares would still be vastly outnumbered by those owned by the holding company.
