Not to be outdone by wannabe designers from The Jersey Shore or fellow musician Liam Gallagher, Madonna will release a private label line of juniors clothing for Macy‘s in August, just in time for little material girls all over the country to buy clothes for back to school. You can’t see the actual line yet, but today Macy’s released a few sketches from the collection, called Material Girl and channeled through the hip young eyes of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes (Stella McCartney is said to be the one who encouraged Lourdes’ interest in fashion).
The Sun Sentinel reports that mother and daughter collaborated on the clothes, shoes and accessories that will make up the line, which will also include a selection of fingerless gloves. Those fingerless gloves aside, we think the sketches look promising — girly and glamorous with the barest suggestion of edge.
While we at Styleite have pretty high standards for what makes a successful celebrity fashion label, we have high hopes for Madonna. In 2007, she did a capsule collection with H&M called M by Madonna. And lest we forget, Madonna has been the face of a plethora of high-end fashion labels, so she’s probably got what it takes to run a fashion company. For our part, we’re looking forward to Material Girl’s ad campaign (there’s totally going to be a video montage of Madge and Lourdes shopping — we can feel it) and all the assorted social media goodies that will undoubtedly come along with it.
Items from the line should retail between $12 and $40, and will be available in Macy’s stores and on its website August 3.
