Last year, L.A. Triumph sued Madonna over her Material Girl clothing line. They claim they had been selling a similar line also called Material Girl since 1997, and as such hold trademark rights “stemming from first use”. They want Madonna to change the line of her line and fork over a whole lot of cash.
Of course, Madonna isn’t having it, since the first use could theoretically be traced back to her 1984 hit “Material Girl”. Alas, a judge rejected the claim as a means of getting the suit thrown out, and the pop superstar will have to see this one through in court.
