Big news: Marchesa is discussing the possibility of a contemporary line with LF USA, an investment and supply chain company — and the same people who saved Vena Cava with a cash infusion just last week. According to WWD, details are still fuzzy, but an announcement will be made soon.
Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are known for their beautiful and elaborate red carpet gowns worn by A-listers like Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Blunt, and Rachel McAdams. While most of those designs are custom-made, retailers like Bergdof Goodman sell Marchesa gowns that can cost upward of $7,500. Needless to say, this move to mass retail would undoubtedly be a boon for their business — and for women who have a thing for incorporating lace, mesh, and intricate embroidery into their day-to-day wear.
Notably, this isn’t Chapman and Craig’s first foray into mass retail. The two created Notte by Marchesa in 2006, a less expensive, but still evening-focused collection. So if they already have a second line, then what will this new one look like? Tulle t-shirts and beaded jackets maybe? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
