What are the holidays for if not to bring people together? And who better to facilitate all this togetherness than the collaboration kings over at Target? That was precisely the spirit last night at the launch party for the retailer’s major holiday collection with Neiman Marcus and the CFDA. We got our hands on the lookbook last month, and we’ve been itching to see the pieces in person ever since. Luckily, our Christmas wishes were granted at a shopping event yesterday, just up the street from that other harbinger of the holidays: the annual Rockefeller Center tree-lighting ceremony. But rather than freeze our fingers off out in the cold, we stayed warm and toasty inside a room filled to the brim with giftable goodies from some of our favorite designers. Yes, even that Alice + Olivia bike, which greeted partygoers at the top of the escalator, ridden by a smiling model decked out in the Prabal Gurung embellished cape (don’t worry, we saw her switch off with a friend eventually). Also browsing the merch were celebs like Zoe Saldana, Kate Bosworth, and Leighton Meester, who we spotted checking out Eddie Borgo‘s chic silver letter opener (doesn’t Gossip Girl communicate by text message anymore?) Over on the other side of the party, Karlie Kloss, the star of the collection’s campaign towered over the crowd, chatting with Girls‘ Allison Williams and designer Jason Wu, whose navy blue star-spangled dress she chose for the festivities. And while the model told us she had big plans for the evening, shopping-wise, her own wish list was a little bit shorter. “All I want this year is time at home with the family,” Kloss confessed. “We do a lot of baking during the holidays, so that’s what my mom and I will be doing this year.” That means plenty more batches of Karlie’s Kookies coming our way. But not all of her presents are going to be hot from the oven. “I absolutely am going to be doing lots of gifting,” said the 20-year-old. “I have lots of family members who are very excited about these pieces and it’s always so hard to get your hands on them when they come out in stores.” So who are the lucky recipients this year? “I’m giving the bicycle to my sister, the yoga mat over there I’m giving to my other sister, and I’m giving one of the “Best Friends” hats to my best friend.” As it happens, we picked up a couple of the Band Of Outsiders hats ourselves. And yes, we will be absolutely be pretending that Karlie’s and ours belong to the same set. The collection hits stores December 1st (that’s this Saturday!), so until then you can plan ahead with the full lookbook of pieces and prices and check out photos from the launch party below:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
