Simon Doonan is arguably one of the most innovative forces in the fashion industry. Window dresser, creative director, sartorial genius — these are only a few of the phrases that describe him. As the creative force behind Barney’s New York, each Christmas he dresses the windows to the nines — providing Manhattan with some very fashionable good tidings.
So, upon hearing the news that Doonan would be designing a line of Halloween costumes for Target, we had one thought: finally! It’s a shock to us that no one has asked him to do so before. Who better to dress America’s trick or treaters than the man who dresses the best holiday windows of the world? Oh, and did we mention his birthday is October 31st?
Costume Couture by Simon Doonan won’t have your typical Slutty Policewoman latex and lace outfit. Rather, it will feature a more sophisticated approach to the holiday. Doonan told WWD about his approach to designing the costumes:
“No one wants to look supergoofy. Halloween is the time for people to dabble in the more crazy aspects of popular culture that they don’t normally participate in the rest of the year. They get to be a little hedonistic.”
So what does this “hedonistic” range of costumes include? There will be the classic Glamour Ghost and Diva Witch, as well as an array of pop culture-inspired outfits, like the Michaele Salahi-esque red dress — though our favorite might be the his and hers get-up of Spaghetti and Meatballs. And don’t worry — if you’re one of those people that loves dressing up your pets, there’s some for little Fido too.
The affordable costumes range from $10 to $30 and will be on sale at Target stores across the nation beginning August 22nd, but if you’re feeling extra antsy, you can purchase online now. You can never be too prepared for Halloween, we guess.
