Always dreamed of standing in front of a mirror and having it judge you fair or fowl? Us neither — talk about childhood nightmares come to life. But like something out of Snow White, word is that Topshop has installed a unique interactive mirror on the ground floor of its Oxford Circus flagship. According to ShowStudio, the reflective project — timed to celebrate the launch of the retailer’s new makeup line invites brave shoppers to stand in front of their looking-glass and submit themselves to scrutiny.
Moreover, it’s not just not just any old dwarves who’ll hiding behind the looking glass. Instead, as part of the project, Topshop has enlisted a bevy of bloggers, stylists and editors to play behind-the-curtain critic. Think “It Brits” like Susie Lau, bloggers like Bryan Boy, stylist Nicola Formichetti (of Lady Gaga fame), Lula Magazine‘s Leigh Clark and Grazia’s Melanie Rickey doling out morsels of sartorial sage, like “Hair up with that neckline,” or “Ditch the hat and try some lipstick.”
Don’t get us wrong, we love, obsess, and have to physically chain ourselves to our desks to avoid spending every last penny we have at Topshop. But standing in front of a mirror and having a gaggle of industry insiders critique our finer points sounds less than magical… worse even than eating rotten apples and living in a colony of fraternal midgets.
But, then again, nothing helps shill a little lipstick and shadow like making women feel insecure about themselves — even if it is masked in Disney approved kitch.
