WATCH: Urban Outfitters Hosts Design Competition For College Students

Forget Project Runway! Nine Pratt Institute fashion students were recently given the chance of a lifetime to design a jersey dress for Urban Outfitters‘s fall line.

After an intense six weeks of sketching, sewing and styling, the nine students/aspiring designers traveled to the stores headquarters in Philedelphia to present their final products to dress buyer Robbin Choi and executive design director Gayle Smith. Three dresses (pictured above) made the cut and will be in Urban’s Design By: collection this fall.

This is an interesting path for the clothing store, which has collaborated with Steven Alan and Charlotte Ronson in the past, but there’s no denying the winning designs will fit in perfectly with the other dresses in Urban’s catalog.

Choi expressed her excitement for the collection on Urban Outfitters’ blog, saying “I think each student really considered the wearability of the garments while making sure that they are all unique. They are all dresses that can flip the switch from day to night, depending on how the girl wears it. I can’t wait for these to get into stores.”

Take a look at all the designs and some brief interviews with the students, below.
