Herald Square, or 1333 Broadway to be exact, is about to become home to a new Urban Outfitters location. The retail giant plans to unveil a “lifestyle center” with never before seen features.
At 56,730 square feet and three levels, the space will be the biggest Urban location in the world. Anthony Malkin, president of Malkin Holdings said,
The store will be a huge catalyst for this retail and office neighborhood extending north of Herald Square. The area has seen transformational changes over the past few years, as Broadway with its pedestrian arcades links Herald Square to Times Square, and Urban Outfitters will be a magnet for shoppers.
Malkin also revealed that this won’t be just another Urban Outfitters. There’s going to be more to it than just books and clothing. What could the mega-retailer possibly be unveiling? Are we going to see more furniture and housewares? Could they be gearing up to become the new IKEA? And who will be the audience for this new concept store? It already has a broad customer base what with Anthropologie, Free People, Terrain, Urban Outfitters and BHLDN under its umbrella, will they be targeting a new customer? Babies? Toddlers?
Urban Outfitters has yet to comment, but we’ll be keeping an eye out to see how this one develops. Right now, the retailer is scheduled to occupy the space in September.
