First up: the clothes. Generally, when designers do diffusion lines or collaborations with mass retailers Target, we’re left feeling pretty let down: promises of designer quality and aesthetic are turned to dust the moment the clothes hit the racks (or our bodies.) Well, thank you, Zac Posen, for proving us wrong.
The clothes sort of rock. We fell in love with a black metallic and mesh-sleeved cardigan (it has snaps!), which was only $38, a ridiculously hot red leather and suede jacket priced at only $199, and we were shocked by the chicness of a colorful, perfect-for-summer-parties, floor-length and safety-pin printed gown — which Claire Danes wore to not one, but two events last night: to a dance at the Museum of Natural History and then, of course, to Posen’s 24-hour bash. Prices range from $16.99 for a white Zac tank to $199.99 for the jacket — $200 well spent, if you ask us. Everything from the material used to the label was purely Zac; well-tailored, fun, and fashionable.
As for the party, everyone was frantically grabbing from the racks, anxious to get their hands on the goods before the line goes public on April 25th to May 30th. Kelly Bensimon told us she couldn’t wait to get her hands on the tuxedo jumpsuit, but a network-wide Bravo edict prevents reality show stars from being out in public when their shows actually air, so in order to preserve the, um, reality of last night’s Real Housewives of New York, Kelly had to run.
Joe Zee, Ginnifer Goodwin, Selma Blaire, Olivia Palermo, Alex Wek, Maggie Gyllenhaal; we saw them all at last night’s 24-hour celebration of the partnership. To show their love of the line, many guests ditched clothes from their own closets and wore some of Zac’s pieces. Except for Ms. Palermo, who looked gorgeous in a smokey blue and unidentified tunic dress and who spent the entire evening entirely by herself. The only active conversation we saw her have was with the cameraman.
Oh. And did we mention that The Like drove the crowd crazy? We’re talking serious dancing. Of course, they were rocking out in Zac Posen for Target.
The party — true to its 24-hour promise — is still going. Check it out at 481 Eighth Avenue at 34th Street. You have until 11pm tonight.
Here are some of our favorite snaps:
(I know we’re not that exciting, nor are we wearing any Posen, but we thought it was very democratic of the party organizers to offer free red carpet polaroids to all the guests. And we kind of love this photo. Oh, and Verena is wearing a backpack.)
