Why Iman Really Does Deserve Her CFDA Award

Who could possibly be a more deserving winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America‘s Fashion Icon award than Iman? Nobody, that’s who.

In the past, the award has gone to celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker, both known for their glamorous red-carpet style, which makes sense. Celebrities, en masse, have made countless contributions to American style. But the reason Iman is even more deserving than past winners of the award is because she’s never not been a fashion icon.

From Yves Saint-Laurent calling her his “dream woman” to her campaigns for Versace, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan, Iman’s presence and participation in the fashion industry is nearly impossible for any working model to match — though we will admit that Kate Moss is giving her a run for her money.

But what tops it all off is the woman’s versatility. She’s a wife (David Bowie is clearly the luckiest man in the world), a mother, a cosmetics executive, and a paragon of true class, grace and elegance.

So we send our congratulations to the inimitable, gracious, beautiful Iman. She deserves the CFDA award, and all the good things we’re sure are coming to her.
