After news broke yesterday that Karl Lagerfeld travelled to New York with no less than 14 large suitcases, most people pointed out the obvious: he wears some variation of the same thing every day — how much could the Kaiser need to pack?

Well, we say, judge not. Karl’s daily costume may look the same to the untrained eye, but if you look closely, he rarely repeats even the same jacket — let alone tie, gloves, or choice of pant.

We went through the Getty Image archives of the Kaiser — as far back as 2003 — to prove our point. Without further ado: seven years in the life of Karl.
