Flashback: Kate Moss Runs Because Galliano Tells Her To

The only thing more fascinating than a young Kate Moss is a young Kate Moss being coached backstage by a young John Galliano before his Paris runway show in 1995. Today’s time warp takes us behind-the-scenes, where Kate — dressed in an Anna Karenina-inspired gown complete with tiered layers and braided pigtails — is trotting up and down the back of the runway, per Galliano’s instructions.

“If you hear a wolf,” he tells her, “You can look ’round like that. Think Irving Penn.” Kate hangs on his every word.

“Make room!” he shouts to his assistants. “Just run.”

And she’s off — cantering away with her hemlines in her hands. As the skirts float back in her wake, Galliano can’t help himself. “Yes! YES! Wicked, wicked, wicked.” But that’s not enough.

Galliano wants the dress to really move. “Run on — and then stop. They’ll go mad for you…Stop, and then make the skirt go really forward.” And when the baby-faced supermodel follows his instructions to the word, Galliano somberly pronounces her a genius.
