Lady Gaga Doodles All Over Her $8,000 Birkin Bag

Lady Gaga arrived in Tokyo for the Japanese leg of her Fame Monster world tour wearing an angular black capri-pantsuit that resembled nothing so much as trapezoidial parachute pants paired with platform booties that, by my estimates, run north of seven inches.

The best part of her ensemble, though, was the pristine white Hermes Birkin bag, on which Gaga had scrawled a message to her Japanese fans — in permanent marker. According to the Daily Mail, the message was written in the Japanese alphabet Katakana and read, “I love little monster, Tokyo love.”

Presumably this is some sort of commentary on the impermanence of luxury goods. Or maybe she just loves the sheer absurdity of being able to procure a Birkin bag in the first place — they start at $5000 and have an almost constant waiting list. It is very Gaga to then have the gall to scribble all over it with a sharpie marker.

Anyway, she also wrote a similar message on her arm — it said, “I love little monster.” (Again, this is via the Daily Mail’s translator, so if someone reads fluent Japanese and wants to correct us, feel free!)

P.S. Aren’t the gloves so very Karl?

[Editor's Note: As a direct result of having fallen asleep last night on Vanity Fair's Grace Kelly article, I mistakenly called Gaga's Birkin a Kelly at initial posting. I've fixed it and also drank a cup of coffee.]
