On Wednesday, when the rest of us were busy buying ingredients to make dinner for families and friends, First Lady Michelle Obama and her family were busy serving the needs of others. They gave out bags of Thanksgiving essentials to families in need at Martha’s Table, a Washington-area organization dedicated to helping solve poverty.

For the occasion, the first lady wore a cream sweater and a purple scarf trimmed in pearls. It’s the kind of accessory that’s easy to throw on and can turn a so-so outfit — like a simple cream sweater and slacks — into something spectacular looking in no time flat. It’s times like these, when she makes looking good look like it takes no effort at all, that we wish she could be first lady for the rest of our lives.
