9 Fabulously Stylish Things We’re Thankful For This Thanksgiving
by Verena von Pfetten | 11:10 am, November 25th, 2010
Besides being a day of delicious food, family fights, and — for most of America — football, Thanksgiving is also a day of giving thanks. And while you’re supposed to be offering your gratitude to heartfelt things, like family (even though they fight), friends, and the turkey for being so delicious, we’ve also found there’s so shortage of fashionable things for which we would like to offer the most passionate and heartfelt of thanks: a slideshow!
We’ve each picked three things we’re most thankful for this year — but would love to hear yours. Leave them in the comments, because lord knows what would happen if you told your family that the thing you’re most thankful for this year is your sample sale Louboutins.
Happy Thanksgiving!

1. Fearless Fashionistas
Julia: Iris Apfel, Anna Dello Russo and Lynn Yaeger are just a few of the women I love for their eccentric and original styles. They're uncompromising, innovative and, yes, fearless.
2. Loafers
Justin: For sheer wearability and comfort, there is no better shoe than a loafer -- and there's hardly one as versatile. When was the last time your captoe brogues helped you run from the police? When did your cross trainers look good in the boardroom? Never. Loafers FTW.
3. Online Shopping
Verena: There only thing I hate more than standing in line, is trying on clothes. Enter, online shopping. Without it, I'd either be wearing nothing or whatever shabby ensemble I cobbled together from hand-me-downs and Christmas gifts. More importantly though, without staples like eBay and Etsy, my wardrobe certainly be overpriced and decidedly unoriginal.
4. Opening Ceremony
Julia: Opening Ceremony is a constant source of inspiration — its buys, merchandising, collaborations and more are really something to behold. And while the ingenious boutique often stocks goods that fall in a ridiculous price range, they sure do know how to put on a spectacular sale.
5. Knit Ties
Justin: Honestly, they're just the best ties ever. They're elegant without being too stuffy, and the material ensures that they can't look bad -- who's going to take the time to knit a crazy pattern like you'd find on a ghastly polyester tie?
6. Ombre Hair
Verena: Without the pervasiveness of this trend, I'd have never been able to grow out my bleach job without looking like a total jerk. Thank you.
7. Skinny Jeans
Julia: Even Yves Saint Laurent wished he had invented blue jeans, which he noted for their "expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity." I'm thankful for skinny jeans, which allow denim to achieve maximal chicness.
8. CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund
Justin: If it wasn't already hard enough to make a name for yourself in fashion, the global economic meltdown kinda made it a near impossibility to break into the business on your own. Thankfully, Anna Wintour and the people of the Council of Fashion Designers of America champion young designers and help propel the best to prominence by doling out several hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, ensuring that the great art of making American fashion stays alive. Also, it means we keep getting to look at cooler and cooler clothes on the runway every season.
9. Lady Gaga, Karl Lagerfeld, and Kate Moss
Verena: Without this trio, I'd have never made it through 72+ posts a week, let alone a single day. For those of you who have never experienced the terrifying paralysis that stems from a slow news day, Gags, Karl, and Kate -- whether its with their inimitable style, incomprehensible statements, or all around fashion prowess -- make even the worst day better.
