WTF? Woman Spends $47,000 On Hair Extensions
Was it Jessica Simpson who said you couldn’t put a price tag on beauty? Well, how does $47,000 sound?
Yes, you read that right.
In news that makes our wallets sulk, apparently that’s what Brandi Irwin, a 28-year-old New York woman spends annually on some super luxe extensions. (And we thought our measly $200 cut and color job was expensive!)
“It’s my biggest expense,” says Irwin, a former-model-turned-foot-model and photographer from Park Slope. (Who knew foot modeling was so lucrative?) According to Irwin, she started lengthening her shoulder-length hair six years ago, and got hooked. ”It was the hair I’d always wanted, and it looked so real,” she said.
But make no mistake — this isn’t the plastic stuff Ken Paves hawks on HSN. Instead, Brandi favors the so-called gold standard of extensions: purified “virgin hair” donated by Indian women to Hindu temples as part of a religious offering.
Honestly, it all sounds a little creepy to us. But maybe we’re just being cheap. After all, with frayed button downs fetching $5000, maybe it’s time we got a side job or, better yet, a pedicure. Foot modeling, anyone?
