PHOTO: Hillary’s Questionable Pre-Wedding Party Outfit

While we’ll leave criticism of her politicking to our friends at Mediaite, Secy. of State Hillary Clinton‘s style has oft been in the sights of fashion writers. Everyone from Anna Wintour, who advised then-Sen. Clinton on what to wear during the 2008 presidential campaign, to the good people at About.com has made some kind of comment on what she’s worn. Today, Styleite joins this group.

Why? We cannot for the life of us figure out why she wore this green dress to the her daughter Chelsea Clinton‘s pre-wedding party last night. Maybe she wanted to step outside of her regular pantsuit routine, maybe no one at the State Department had the courage to tell her this dress was kinda fug, but whatever caused her to choose these eight yards of green in particular, it’s clear that Secy. Clinton is suffering from a severe case of Styleitis.

Personal style is all about honesty, and whether people have liked Clinton’s style or not, she has for decades been cultivating a mode of dressing all her own. She was conservative but colorful, professional yet still entirely approachable. It takes a lot of guts to keep wearing pantsuits when the editor of Vogue tells you not to, but Hillary did it anyway.

But this dress is such a departure from the Hillary we knew and loved. The last time we saw her all glammed up — at last year’s Kennedy Center Honors — she sparkled in an 80s-inspired blue satin dress and looked like, well, a glammed up version of the Hillary we knew and loved.

But in this dress — and especially standing next to a toned-down Bill Clinton — she looks rather like a green bat about to take wing. We know she’s happy for Chelsea — we all are, and we’ll have more on the wedding madness later in the day — but we’re not happy about this dress.

I don’t mind the style of the dress, but the print really leaves something to be desired in my book.

I do not understand , cannot understand, do not want to understand WHY HC left her bedroom suite wearing that outfit – atrocious colour, pattern and shape paired with , are those really black patent leather pumps I see ? and then don’t get me started on the jewelry – what a mess – with all that money and so many available to help her – pathetic – did Chelsea see this get up before hand –

look at the way she and Mr. C are holding hands – a bit tense –
why doesn’t someone please help her – she has always had horrific taste -
