Is Under Over? Milan Makes A Case For Socks Over Shoes

We’d barely just come to terms with wearing socks under our sandals and already the fashion industry has thrown another sartorial curveball at us: socks over shoes! Spotted cruising down the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year, we can’t decide whether to just laugh this one off (like we tried to do with anti-embolism stockings) or get a little worried. 

Of course, wearing tights over your wedges does have a sort of skaterly, Discover Stars on Ice quality to it.  And think about how economical it is! One pair of shoes and a myriad of interchangeable hosiery. Though we’d love to see a tutorial in how they managed to get those puppies on without a snag. We run our stockings just trying to get them on over our big toe, so imagine a four-inch heel. Paging Mr. Weir!

    And, I guess like in the picture if you buy your shoes too small and you big toe hangs off the end, you can cover it up with the socks! Don’t see this catching on (or is this just wishful thinking).
