Everyone knows the afterparty is way cooler than the actual party, which is why the Vanity Fair Oscars party is always the place to be. Not only do the winners and losers get to mingle, all of the people who weren’t invited to the ceremony get to dress up too!
Michelle Williams may not have won the Best Actress Oscar she was nominated for, but she did look quite lovely on red carpet.
Anne Hathaway may have co-hosted Sunday night’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards, but her eight (count ‘em!) outfit changes most definitely stole the show.
Among a sea of fairly standard red carpet getups, a few ensembles stood out as being pretty awful. Whether they were downright dumb or just painfully boring, the looks that we have deemed the Oscars‘ worst stand in stark contrast to the ones we loved.
If there is one absolute when it comes to red carpet fashion, it’s that Helena Bonham Carter never looks boring. Though we almost dismissed her Oscars getup as tame, she pulled up her dress a bit and we realized we were totally wrong.
Gwyneth Paltrow definitely has her haters, but remember Shakespeare in Love? Or Emma? Vintage Gwynnie ruled! As such, we’re glad her Oscars outfit felt like a bit of throwback.
We’re totally split on Jennifer Hudson‘s tangerine-red (at least, that’s what we’re calling it) Versace gown. It almost works, you know? But it doesn’t?
It’s the Oscar dress everyone was waiting for. On Sunday, Natalie Portman stepped out onto the 82nd Annual Academy Awards red carpet in a rich aubergine, off-the-shoulder gown by design darlings Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte.
Let’s be honest: Scarlett Johansson is pretty incapable of looking straight up bad, but we were pretty torn on her look at Sunday night’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Johansson walked the red carpet in a purple lace and column cut frock by Dolce & Gabbana, which she paired with a messy ‘do, burnt orange eyeshadow, and a huge statement ring by Anna Hu.
Because there’s nothing we love more than spending our Sunday liveblogging a red carpet event with you guys, we’ve got big plans for the upcoming 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Join us, as we watch Natalie Portman and Rachel Zoe go head to head in the battle of the baby bumps, see Ryan Seacrest get (re)snubbed by Brangelina, and keep a live tally of how many dresses each designer has walk down Hollywood’s most watched 300 yards of fabric.
The epic Rachel Zoe/Taylor Jacobson split has been well-documented, and it looks like RZ and Tay will go head-to-head once again. However, this time the duel won’t take place on reality TV — it will go down at two of the year’s biggest awards shows.
