The Oscars are finally here! While you’re busy watching the red carpet livestream, we’ll be updating the gallery below with every single look that steps out in front of the photographers.
You know the old adage “If you’ve got it, flaunt it”? Well, these celebrities are most certainly flaunting it with backless gowns, plunging necklines, and thigh-baring ensembles, and they’re doing it on the most-watched red carpet of the year.
In Beasts of the Southern Wild, youngest-ever “Best Actress” nominee Quvenzhané Wallis sticks to a grungy uniform of a tattered tank top and rolled-up jeans. In real life, however, the nine-year-old is clearly partial to glitzier fare. Wallis stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno yesterday with director Benh Zeitlin to talk about the film, the fast-approachingAcademy Awards, and whether designers are clamoring over one another to dress her for the big day, and wore the kind of awesome outfit grown-ups secretly wish they could get away with.
While the other nominees for Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards will no doubt be tapping the couture houses of Paris and the diamond purveyors of Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive for their red carpet looks, 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis is a whole other story. How to look both age appropriate and appropriately glamorous for the biggest Hollywood event of the year? Well, Wallis has at least one part of her outfit set and ready to go: her puppy purse, which she says is her “signature” accessory.
While we were sad not to see her on last night’s People’s Choice Awards red carpet, Emma Stone had a good reason for staying in. The Gangster Squad star was up bright-eyed and perfectly coiffed at the absolutely unreasonable hour of 5:30AM PST to announce this year’s Academy Award nominees with Oscar host Seth MacFarlane.
Viola Davis may not have walked away with the Oscar for Best Actress Sunday night, but as far as we’re concerned her decision to wear her hair natural — and not relaxed or covered up by a wig or otherwise processed — makes her the award show’s biggest winner.
Here’s the thing about the red carpet at the Oscars: Because it’s the most important award show there is, people look there more than any other place for inspiration when it comes time to get all dolled up. So if you see something on the red carpet more than a few times — even if it’s just a dress with one shoulder — you should probably pay attention.
The Oscars are tonight, and we’re livestreaming the film industry’s biggest red carpet of the year right here!
Because it’s not enough that Hollywood Royalty reigns supreme during awards season, there’s a rumor going around that a certain prince and princess and from a certain European royal house want to bestow their regal glamour upon the red carpet at the Oscars.
Looks like Victoria Beckham is starting to get the kind of high-flying validation she’s been working toward for the last few years. According to some well placed sources, the designer has been asked to create dresses for some of the biggest stars walking this year’s Oscar red carpet.
If you read our liveblog, you know we weren’t exactly blown away by the sartorial showing on Sunday night’s red carpet. The Oscars aren’t exactly known for being an outré affair, but we were hoping for a little more pizazz and pow from tonight’s honorees. That said, there were some standouts, like Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture and nominee Jennifer Lawrence‘s modern and minimalist red dress. And while we tried to stick to five, 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld and 52-year-old Annette Bening tied for having the hands down most stunningly age appropriate ensembles.
Let’s be honest: Scarlett Johansson is pretty incapable of looking straight up bad, but we were pretty torn on her look at Sunday night’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Johansson walked the red carpet in a purple lace and column cut frock by Dolce & Gabbana, which she paired with a messy ‘do, burnt orange eyeshadow, and a huge statement ring by Anna Hu.
Actress Gabourey Sidibe‘s IMDB page is pretty quiet for someone who’s been nominated for an Academy Award, but that could be because she’s working on a lucrative side project.
The Academy Of Country Music Awards are a different kind of awards show. The hair is usually bigger and the dresses are most definitely glitzier — at least that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Why expect any different this year, especially considering the awards were held in Vegas? Right? Wrong.
