Alexa Chung Page 1
Sadly, if Alexa Chung were to hit the French Riviera, it would not be with us, but rather with a classic Longchamp tote in tow.
It might not be kosher for us to get in on the great British tradition of blowing stuff up on November 5th, but we can celebrate another important day on the UK calendar — Alexa Chung’s birthday. Our favorite Vogue-editing, shoe-obsessing, boy-speaking, non-It girl turns 30 today, and in lieu of sending her a cake (British people hate when you send them cake) we’ve put together a few things she might actually like.
There’s no hope for you. Bye.
We caught up with the 29 year old recently to talk about the unique genesis of IT, how her modelling career has evolved, dealing with critics, and her undying love of shoes.
Like releasing a calendar celebrating your own likeness, attending a party to celebrate your own likeness can be done without a splash of conceit of you happen to be Alexa Chung. Last night the serial slashie was the guest of honor at Nylon‘s October ‘It Girl’ issue launch at La Cenita, where she was joined by Harley Viera Newton, Tennessee Thomas, Cory Kennedy and Leigh Lezark, causing a serious shortage of It Girls east of 9th Avenue.
We’re taking a little break from our regular Fashion Week programming to bring you some pearls of wisdom from Alexa Chung.
In the 1930 film Morocco, Marlene Dietrich raised eyebrows by gender bending in a sharp black tuxedo. Her ensemble’s pièce de résistance was her white bow tie, and since then she has been an emblem for women taking on the borrowed-from-the-boys neck accoutrement. You might recall Madonna’s Dolce & Gabbana tux getup from earlier this summer, top hat et all, as proof of just this.
Instagram: Depending on your curation skills, it can be a stream of anything from duckfaces shrouded in a Valencia haze to editorial-level outfit inspiration. We like our feeds to zigzag through both, offering insight and artistry edged with #selfies and LOLs. Click through to see the ‘grams we were loving this week, including Alessandra Ambrosio’s Greek Island kaftan extravaganza, Eva Chen’s style throwback and Beyoncé’s trippy woven brights.
Oh, Alexa Chung, you sly mix. Back in April the divine being of personal style tipped us off that Eyeko’s skinny liquid liner was the secret to her perfectly winged cat-eye – that and hitting the gene lottery jackpot, of course – and now it’s surfaced that she’s inked a deal with the indie cosmetics brand.
Hot off the heels of having the Kate Middleton’s mother, Carole Middleton, sport one of her designs on the world stage during a royal baby hospital visit, Orla Kiely celebrated the launch of her latest diffusion line for Target: an assortment of tech accessories in her signature kitschy prints. Proving that she has an ever cool following, Ora’s guest list included basically all of our favorite gals.
MyTheresa.com is no longer just your destination for blowing a paycheck on a whim or doing harmless virtual window shopping. The luxe e-commerce site has launched a new portrait and film series, in which they profile famous It girls, who share their coveted advice and musings. We weren’t at all surprised to see that their first episode stars none other than Alexa Chung, who is just about as ‘It’ as it gets, from her brains to her sartorial brawn.
One of the best things about a Chanel show is seeing how Karl reinvents the Grand Palais. A giant gold lion? A luxe Mumbai banquet? A looming globe? All things he’s done in the past, but for Chanel’s Fall 2013 Haute Couture show he just decided to tear the whole thing up dystopian fiction style and chuck in a whole bunch of rubble, because that’s how the Kaiser rolls.
Given that it’s late afternoon on a rainy Tuesday, we’re feeling particularly susceptible to jealousy right now, so the front rows of Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris are a big ol’ kick in the face that just hurts so damn good. Sure the shows themselves are providing plenty to rave about. Multi-media modeling, high-octane colors and NAOMI FREAKIN’ CAMPBELL — but it’s who’s occupying the prime seats that we want to see.
Hey, Alexa Chung, eye see what you did there.
One thing we learned Monday night at Glamour‘s “These Girls” event? Gloria Steinem’s favorite word is “fan-f*cking-tastic”. Another thing we learned? Well, a lot actually, since that was just the first tidbit of wisdom from an evening of hilarious, personal, and poignant monologues by Alexa Chung, Emma Roberts, Zosia Mamet, Dianna Agron, Lucy Punch, and Amy Schumer on being a young woman in today’s crazy world.
Ain’t no party like a Chanel party, and that’s a fact. Last night, the brand hosted an Artists Dinner during the Tribeca Film Festival, drawing scenesters, models, and media types alike. Here’s a look at what everyone wore.
Who said the desert couldn’t stand a little more heat?
We all know the ins and outs of wardrobe staples — a plain white tee, dark denim, and a timeless LBD come to mind — so why not learn the rules when it comes to beauty? We wanted to find out the must-have products that our favorite fashion insiders never leave home without: the go-to goodies that instantly put a pep in our most stylish friends’ steps. This week, It-girl Alexa Chung gives us the scoop on her perfectly lined peepers.
