Alexander McQueen At The Met: An Essential Exhibit, An Extraordinary Career
The Costume Institute‘s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is insanely beautiful, intensely dramatic, and — most importantly — profoundly moving. Spanning from McQueen‘s Central Saint Martins graduation collection to his posthumous autumn/winter 2010-11 show, the exhibit celebrates an extraordinary and prolific career cut tragically short.
PHOTOS: The 8 Met Gala Looks That Blew Us Away
We sort of expected to be blown out of the water by the looks at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala last night. After all, the event is all about fashion, and last night’s, specifically, was about the creations of one of the greatest designers of our time, the late Alexander McQueen. McQueen’s designs were known for their grand scale, high drama, innovative use of materials and nods to time gone by. This year’s Met Gala celebrated the genius of Alexander McQueen. The Costume Institute‘s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit opens tomorrow, and breathtaking doesn’t even begin to describe it. But more on that later! The Met Gala is arguably the most fashionable event of the year, so it’s no surprise than many of the A-list guests dressed in keeping with the fashionable McQueen theme.

Hamish Bowles is like, the dandiest dandy who ever dandied. Ever. He’s the word dandy personified, and he proved that tonight on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala. Bowles wore a tartan tuxedo complete with an embellished cape and patent leather shoes with beaded tassels at the event, which is chaired by his boss, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
