alexander mcqueen tribute Page 1
Even posthumously, there’s nothing about Alexander McQueen that isn’t symbolic. American Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and British first lady Samantha Cameron held a press conference announcing Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the Costume Institute‘s exhibition recognizing the designer’s work yesterday at the Ritz Hotel in London. McQueen’s first post-graduate show was held in the same location.
In case you missed it, last night’s episode of Glee was the usual mix of snappy one-liners and catchy musical numbers — plus a teenage identity crisis or two. And while we relished in all the perfectly harmonized theatrics, it was Kurt Hummel’s angry rendition of “Roses Turn” (from the musical Gypsy) that had our arm hairs standing on end.
Alexander McQueen was never one for subtlety. So somehow the latest XXX lensing of the late designer’s couture wares seems a stunningly fitting — if provocative — tribute. Shot by photographer Steven Klein and styled by Carine Roitfeld for the May issue of Vogue Paris, the “Erotica”-inspired spread captures a platinum blond Lily Donaldson — crotch shots and all — in the extreme-in-your face-fashion that was McQueen’s calling card.
