Fashion designer Peter Som has already made a reputation based on his affinity for classic elegance with a quirky twist. Previously, though, Som’s designs were mostly relegated to high-end boutiques and red carpets.
Anthropologie has been known to hawk some unreasonably expensive, outrageously ugly wares. Remember that $2,200 beribboned rickshaw? What about the $800 paper mâché rotary phone? Today’s installment of eyesore comes in the form of the $398 “Trinket & Treasure” candlestick, a 21″ stack of junky flea market finds atop a brassy base. While some of the “trinkets” are harmless, albeit hideous, renderings of cacti and puppy dogs, others happen to enforce ugly racist stereotypes, as outdated souvenirs are wont to do.
Fashion Month is finally over, but the biggest story to come out of it was the war of the words between New York Times critic Cathy Horyn and Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane. As such, while the focus at last night’s launch party for Timo Weiland and Tracy Reese‘s collaborations with Anthropologie was very much about their designs, the conversations inevitably veered towards the feud.
This was the week celebrities (and normal people) wore lots of Halloween costumes! This was also the week we talked to a few of our girlcrushes (Blake Lively! Alexa Chung! Mindy Kaling!), lamented offensive merchandise, and saw what Courtney Stodden looks like without makeup. Oh, yeah, and Kim Kardashian filed for divorce.
