Fashion Awards Honor Emerging Talent: Who Made The Cut?

Awards season is upon us! While there are plenty of entertainment award shows coming up (Golden Globes! Oscars! Grammys!), there are also quite a few fashion awards to be given out. Today both the finalists for Fashion Group International’s Rising Star awards and the winners of the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund awards for emerging designers were announced.

Ralph Lauren Awarded With Key That Doesn’t Open Anything

Last night, in a ceremony that combined the opening of Ralph Lauren‘s new mansion of a store on New York’s Madison Avenue and the designer’s 71st birthday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg awarded Lauren for his philanthropic work and his leadership in business. He’s the first fashion designer ever to receive the honor.

Harper’s Bazaar Wins Magazine Cover Of The Year Award

We will admit to having had some doubt in Harper’s Bazaar in the past. But 2009-2010 seems to have been a year with more hits than misses, because yesterday Glenda Bailey‘s book won the Magazine Cover of the Year Award from the American Society of Magazine Editors.

Another awards show… another Best Dressed/Worst Dressed list. Last night’s Tony Awards should have been full of dramatic and theatrical gowns — think Sarah Jessica Parker’s Chanel Emmy’s dress in 2003. And while we agree last night’s looks were dramatic, it was a far cry from anything fashion forward.
