“Who’s my plus one to events? I don’t get invited to these events!” Sharon Socol joked Tuesday night at a Barneys New York party. In fact, the night was all about Socol, who is married to former Barneys CEO Howard Socol. As his plus one to many an event over the years, Sharon snapped candid photos at parties, shows, backstage — you name it. She compiled the crème de la crème into her first book “Plus One: An Outsider’s Photographic Journey Into the World of Fashion”, and of course, we there there to celebrate with her.
For the holiday season, Barneys and Disney teamed up on what sounded like a cool collaboration — our favorite animated characters were getting all gussied up in fashionable wares for a short 3D film. But Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and others got more than just the high-fashion treatment — they all went on a digital diet.
Beloved Disney characters are getting a fashion makeover this holiday season with the help of Barneys. The two companies have teamed up on a three-dimensional short film featuring Disney characters as supermodels.
Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly threw some serious shade at Lady Gaga last week, denouncing her recent antics (like her Thanksgiving special and Gaga’s Workshop at Barneys) as sad attempts at getting more exposure that she really doesn’t need. We, of course, respectfully disagree.
Oh. My. Gaga. When Barneys announced that it would be collaborating with Lady Gaga on a holiday campaign and shopping space, we had no idea that it would be as high-concept as it’s turned out to be. But rest assured: Gaga’s Workshop is going to be one of the coolest seasonal shopping experiences ever.
To celebrate Christian Louboutin, his 20th anniversary, and his new book, Barneys has dedicated their Madison Avenue windows to the cobbler. But in an October appropriate twist, the resulting displays are less fashion and more freaky. Thankfully, our friends at Barneys gave us this behind-the-scenes video which shows us exactly how the creepy installations were created — no stiletto-themed nightmares for us!
Oh, happy day! After months of sleepless speculation, we can all rest easy tonight knowing how exactly Carine Roitfeld is going to spend her time now that she’s no longer the editor in chief of Vogue Paris. According to WWD, Roitfeld has partnered with Barneys for the fall season, where she will serve as guest editor and stylist for their campaign and catalogue. She’ll also be filling Simon Doonan‘s very large shoes by putting her “stylist touch” on their famous window displays.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy are at it again, this time designing a line of tees in collaboration with Rialto Pictures to celebrate the 50th anniversary and rerelease of the French film Breathless. (Don’t worry. We’d never heard of it either.)
Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney’s New York is a visionary and a taste maker. He’s an author, a brilliant window dresser, and a columnist. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of his office. Christie’s took that desire and ran with it for the Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth, which ends today.
Today we learned how to pronounce Proenza Schouler from Martha Stewart. Seriously. The homemaking mogul was joined on her show by Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, the duo behind the brand.
The always chic auction house Christie’s has teamed up with NBC Universal and some of the most important people in the fashion industry to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day for “A Bid To Save The Earth,” a green auction scheduled for April 22nd.
The late Alexander McQueen was never afraid of taking risks, so it comes as no surprise that his final undertaking would be something a little out of the box. As one of his final design feats, McQueen created a men’s underwear collection, slated to launch in June.
