A really good documentary offers an unflinching and engrossing look at its subject. The fashion industry may be infamously impenetrable, but a few enterprising filmmakers have caught some amazing stories on film. As such, we’ve put together a list of the six most essential fashion documentaries.

Today’s time warp takes us behind-the-scenes, where Kate — dressed in an Anna Karenina-inspired gown complete with tiered layers and braided pigtails — is trotting up and down the back of the runway, per Galliano’s instructions.
