Hogan McLaughlin‘s story reads like a modern-day fashion fairy tale. The fairy godmother: Daphne Guinness. The medium: Twitter, of course.
Earlier this month, Daphne Guinness announced that she would auction off pieces from her extensive wardrobe to raise funds for The Isabella Blow Foundation. Last night at Christie’s in London, Guinness did just that — and sold all 102 lots for nearly $600,000.
Daphne Guinness sang some tunes on the Lower East Side over the weekend. Why? Apparently, the band Element 4 called Guinness, asked if she wanted to perform with them at Arlene’s Grocery, and she agreed. Of course.
Fashion’s favorite exotic bird romps around an eery mansion, perches at an open window, and poses as a gilded statue in this Tatler spread.
Loath as we are to even consider the idea that any of the actors from Downton Abbey exist in a world that doesn’t involve titles and servants and a big house in the country, they do. And when they’re not pretending to be variously assorted members of the British nobility, they’re doing cool things like starring in modern jewelry ads.
Beer heiress (yes, that’s what she is for a living) Daphne Guinness is selling her art-filled apartment on Fifth Avenue, and she’s listed it for a whopping $14 million.
Kate Moss gave Vogue Paris her Ziggy Stardust best for the magazine’s December cover, and now Daphne Guinness is stepping up to the glam rock plate for the January issue of Vogue Germany. Bowie is a dynamic figure, yes, but honestly, we’re more into the butterfly wallpaper in slide two than anything else.
Valentino is having quite the week, and we’re happy to be along for the ride. On Monday we attended a press conference at MoMA to get the details on the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, and last night we feted the project with the designer and his fancy friends.
This was the week we finally saw the Twilight wedding dress. We also saw offensive billboards, tween thongs, and Thanksgiving style advice. But also awesome puppies! And Muppets! And Obamas!
MAC‘s latest collaboration involves one of our favorite style icons — and she really threw herself into the project.
It wasn’t too long ago that Daphne Guinness exhibited her designs in a funeral-themed jewelry show. But now we’ll get a chance to see more than just her $1.76 million diamond-encrusted glove. An eclectic collection of all things Daphne-related will go on display this September at FIT.
This week Kate Moss got the Carrie Bradshaw treatment and Kate Middleton wore a floral pancake hat. LOVE Magazine totally ruled, plus-size model secrets were exposed, and Rachel Zoe‘s baby son got us all envious. Also, OMFG Mariah Carey.
Earlier this month, we reported that Amanda Harlech and Daphne Guinness traded places for a Karl Lagerfeld-shot editorial for V Magazine‘s transformation issue. The pictures have arrived, and they’re as awesomely bizarre as we hoped they’d be.
Paris Couture Week is nothing without parties, and the one model Natalia Vodianova threw at Valentino Garavani‘s Paris home, the Chateau de Wideville. Vodianova and Valentino turned his house into a Russian winter wonderland for her White Fairy Tale Love Ball, which raised money for her organization that helps disadavantaged children, the Naked Heart Foundation. And with two notable exceptions, mostly everyone turned up in dazzling white couture dresses.
Thanks to snapshot-happy Terry Richardson, we don’t have to wait until Vogue‘s September issue drops to see pictures of Kate Moss‘s epic wedding festivities. This may be the first and only time we ever say this: thanks, Terry!
Only Karl Lagerfeld could convince two of the most fiercely independent fashion stars to abandon their personas and adopt each other’s. Lagerfeld photographed his longtime friend Daphne Guinness and personal and professional muse Amanda Harlech for the upcoming issue of V Magazine.
If you’ve been living under some kind of rock for the past few months, you might have missed the news that supermodel Kate Moss is tying the knot with rocker Jamie Hince next Friday. But the wedding reception will go on for a full three days, and Moss has taken every step to make sure that the celebration will be remembered as the best party in history.
Daphne Guinness is as fascinating as she is fashionable, so it’s always fun to hear what she has to say about her life and style. Brennan Stasiewicz filmed her in her apartment and during her Barneys Met Gala performance for Nowness, and there are as many shots of beautiful clothing as there are insights into the unconventional world of the eccentric icon. Of course, Guinness doesn’t think of herself as such.
We don’t know exactly when Daphne Guinness decided to get ready for the Met Gala in a window at Barneys, but we sure are glad she did. Last night we nipped out of work a little early to watch the fashion icon prep for the ball in front of a small crowd of fashion lovers. It was ethereal and kind of creepy to watch, but at the end of it, we felt a lot closer to Guinness than we ever had before.
