From her mother’s narrow escape at Auschwitz to why she would never date a lawyer, here are a few things you should know about the inimitable Diane von Furstenberg.
Yvan Mispelaere has left Diane von Furstenberg after spending just two-and-a-half years as the company’s creative director.
Oh, to be young, beautiful, and a princess. That was the idea behind Diane von Furstenberg‘s spring collection, which was shown in New York yesterday in a theatre strung with mirrored lips, the designer’s iconic logo. DVF, however, wasn’t courting Kate Middleton, nor conjuring a Cinderella tale, but rather looking back on her own past and the years she spent as Diane, Princess of Fürstenburg, traveling the world with a bohemian spirit and a title in tow.
As do we, Allyson, as do we.
When we asked Allison Williams who she’d most like to be seated next to at fashion week, we were expecting an answer along the lines of, say, Ryan Lochte or Rihanna. But it seems the Girls star has her sights set on a slightly younger demographic.
Because of course they did.
Last week we brought you heaps of glorious photos of models’ nuptials, so this week we figured it was the designers’ turn! These ceremonies run the gamut from Michael Kors‘ relaxed beachside vows (he and hubby Lance LePere went to see The Help after they said “I Do”) to Victoria Beckham‘s high-profile nineties extravaganza (more than 500 guests watched her walk the aisle in a Vera Wang gown with a 20-foot train).
Finally, a story about some our favorite women all in one room together! Oprah Winfrey was honored with the ‘Lifetime Leadership’ award at last night’s DVF awards, presented by the legendary designer herself. “She is the most formidable person I have ever met in my life,” the designer and humanitarian said of Winfrey at the event, held last night at the United Nations. “What is extraordinary about Oprah is that she has done so much and yet she is still a little girl. She is still very pure and you can make her cry and laugh so quickly.”
Everyone knows sample sales are crazy, but the ladies behind Wreak Havoc NY took things a step further and conducted a not-so-scientific experiment involving the Diane von Furstenberg sample sale and a rack full of Mongolian fur vests. This is what happened.
After a successful Canadian tour full of lovely sleeved dresses, maple leaves, and only one wardrobe malfunction, Kate Middleton has arrived on American soil for the very first time. Welcome, Duchess Catherine!
We can’t wait to get our hands (noses?) on Diane von Furstenberg‘s new fragrance DIANE, which the designer has described as all the powers of womanhood in a bottle. But she’s not satisfied to put femininity in just one bottle: she’s already got another fragrance in the works and is thinking about a full line of beauty products.
Are you ready to dress your kids up in pint-sized wrap dresses and cheerful prints? Are you ready to do so with Diane von Furstenberg designs at Gap prices? The retail giant may be in trouble, but the rumored DVF/GapKids collaboration has us very, very excited.
What does the essence of powerful women smell like? Frangipani and violets. Those are the olfactory highlights of a fragrance that designer Diane von Furstenberg will start selling this fall, inspired by the power of women.
Diane von Furstenberg is one of our favorite girl power fashion heroes, but did you know she was also a magazine cover girl? The stunning designer posed for the cover of Newsweek back in 1976 in her iconic wrap dress. FOXY!
