Fall 2013 Page 1
At this rate we’re going to be spending winter all dressed up with nowhere to go. Or, rather, nowhere we can afford to go. At least coffee is cheaper hot than iced, so we can at least have a steaming mug to clasp as we huddle in a ball of faux fur, lush sheepskin, cartooney PJs, nostalgic prints and gothy platform oxfords. Layering is always in, right?
We’re getting vibes of a noirish Edward Scissorhands, American Beauty or The Stepford Wives from Prada’s Fall 2013 campaign video. Though Prada needs no malfunctioning domestic sex robots to make the mundane fascinating.
A day where a royal fetus could become a royal baby is no time for displaying composure, and we’re going to use the occasion to get equally riled up over another regal drop: Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2013 campaign.
Edie Campbell’s already fronting campaigns for Jil Sander and Marc Jacobs this season, so combined with her multifarious Lanvin ads she must be feeling a little thinly spread personality-wise – particularly since the brand had her embodying six different women.
Compared to his previous modeling endeavors, which include dressing in drag for Candy and showing his bare ass on the cover of Flaunt, this is pretty tame. It’s also the most humble we’ve ever seen someone look while driving a red convertible and wearing $300 sunglasses.
At this year’s Met Gala we saw fashion mashing the subculture with anything it damn well pleased. Katy Perry did ‘Junk’ (Joan of Arc Punk), Kim Kardashian did ‘Sunk’ (Sofa Punk), Anna Wintour did Knup (exactly the opposite of punk) and Miley Cyrus did something we don’t even want to think of a word for. At the other end of the spectrum is Versace and ‘Vunk’, a mash-up that’s amazing because it’s so shameless in marrying 1970s street culture to everything it would hate most.
Kimberly Ovitz has earned herself a substantial number of fans since her ready to wear debut in 2009. Lindsay Lohan wore one of her white bodycon numbers to court two years ago, Leandra Medine gave her flats-on-the-runway idea two big thumbs up, and Anna Wintour graced us all with her presence at the designer’s fall show. But, as it turns out, the latter collection will never see the light of day — or, more accurately, the fluorescent glare of retail stores — because Ovitz has decided not to produce it at all. What gives?

Exposed nipples on the runway barely makes us skip a beat, but they’re still a little distracting when we’re trying to watch a show. Case in point: the first model down the runway at Dan and Dean Caten‘s DSquared2 show in Milan yesterday suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction.
