TIME WARP: Marc Jacobs on the Merits of Underwear
What with his buff, tan nakedness all over the place, it’s hard to imagine Marc Jacobs as a nerdy, skinny, recent fashion-school graduate sitting on top of a ladder discussing his new collection of underwear-inspired clothing. And yet, here he is.
TIME WARP: Yves Saint Laurent On ‘What’s My Line?’
This might be our favorite Time Warp yet. While we typically look for vintage videos and photos that fall within fashion’s sphere, every now and then we come across a designer or model in a somewhat less sartorial situation. Enter Yves Saint Laurent on this 1965 episode of “What’s My Line?” First of all, he looks adorable. Second of all, he sounds adorable. And third of all, watching the host help him with his answers is more adorable than the first two combined.
Lanyard (a.k.a. Gimp) Makes A Comback On Shopbop
Candy Stripe, Chevron Pattern, Hearts…if any of these words mean anything to you, or bring back memories of color coding a plastic box of string or lanyard, you’ll be pleased — or maybe confused — to know that Shopbop has decided to bring back the friendship bracelet, but in an even more iconic iteration: lanyard. (Ed Note: Also known as Gimp, also known as plastic lacing!)
Flashback: Betsey Johnson’s 1989 Fall Runway Show
This clip of Jonson’s fall runway show in 1989 is full of leggings, dresses, and skirts that look straight out of a modern day Betsey Johnson collection. And we can’t help but notice the immense theatrics.
Flashback: Kate Moss Runs Because Galliano Tells Her To
The only thing more fascinating than a young Kate Moss is a young Kate Moss being coached backstage by a young John Galliano before his Paris runway show in 1995. Today’s time warp takes us behind-the-scenes, where Kate — dressed in an Anna Karenina-inspired gown complete with tiered layers and braided pigtails — is trotting up and down the back of the runway, per Galliano’s instructions.
WATCH: The Craziest Fragrance Commercial Ever Made
Perfume commercials are notoriously strange and certainly kitschy, but when we stumbled upon this 80s ad for Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium perfume starring Linda Evangelista, we were left speechless and inclined to watch it on repeat. The storyline for the thirty second spot appears to have something to do with organized crime, ninjas, torchlit temples, and a loincloth clothed man-slave who is inexplicably obsessed with the scent of Opium.
WATCH: Kate And Christy Talk Bikini Waxes
Ever wonder what supermodels talk about backstage? Today’s flashback sheds a little light on the subject via a clip from the 1996 documentary, “Catwalk.”
