Vogue Italia’s latest cover story, shot by famed photog Steven Meisel titled “Haute Mess”, sparked a brushfire of discussion last week over whether or the not the spread was in fact racist. Models done up in dramatic hairdo’s, candy-colored makeup, and elaborate nail art were shot draped in diner booths and surrounded by fast food. The set up and styling caused many to wonder if the story was intentionally poking fun at African American and Latino culture.
