You remember how every time you used to go into the mall, you’d walk past the Gap and think, “Hey, I should go in there. They had a cool commercial on TV the other day, and I want me some of what was in that commercial”? Yeah. The Gap remembers those times, too, and its trying everything it can to reproduce that feeling of goodwill and readiness to buy in customers all over the world.
After 4 years as president (and 24 years with the company), Gap head honcho Marka Hansen is stepping down and leaving the brand. Her stint as prez has been anything but smooth, so it’s not a huge surprise she’s making an exit.
If there’s one thing fashion loves to do, it’s push the envelope. And while some of the stories included on this list made the cut due to a deliberately controversial editorial vision (ahem, Terry Richardson), many more made the list by sheer (and often embarrassingly obtuse) accident. After a week of insisting that replacing its old logo with something more modern was indeed a good move, the Gap has swallowed a corporate-sized pill and decided to stick with its old logo.
What happened this week? So many things! Gap got an ugly logo and Alexa Chung wore ugly flats. Lady Gaga continues to be pantless in airports, Abercrombie will lower your sperm count, Kanye loves him some models — and much, much more.
