We love Glee as much as the next teen-obsessed fashion blogger, but Dianna Agron and Lea Michele’s appearances on tonight’s red carpet left us sorely disappointed.
Bloggers take a lot of flak for not being practitioners of “real journalism,” but at least we’ve never reported that photos from a charity event were actually snapped at a major designer runway show. And that’s exactly what The Wall Street Journal, that old bastion of journalistic integrity, did just last night.
Giles Deacon‘s departure from the fashion house Emanuel Ungaro couldn’t come at a better — or worse — time. The designer and the brand say they made a mutual decision to part ways, and that phrasing makes us think Deacon has accepted a better job offer.
Good news! The nine-piece capsule collection Giles Deacon designed for Nine West is finally here. Featuring two handbags, flats, booties, wedge heels, and jewelry, the line was inspired by Deacon’s cartoon mouse, Eek, who you may remember from his Fall 2006 collection.
Giles Deacon is making all sorts of noise lately. First he had a ridiculously impressive roster of supermodels (including Verushka!) stomp the runway at his eponymous show during London Fashion Week. Then it came out that he designed Katy Perry‘s too-sexy-for-Sesame frock. Now Deacon is making some waves over at Emanuel Ungaro, where he presented his first collection for the brand after Lindsay Lohan‘s disastrous run.
Katy Perry’s Too-Sexy-For-Sesame-Street Dress wasn’t just any old dress, it was a dress designed by fashion world wunderkind and Ungaro’s newly appointed head designer Giles Deacon — though his version apparently came with a decorative tarantula. How much more Sesame Street can you get?
In case you were wondering where all the big names were this season, it looks like they were resting their gams in preparation for the Giles Spring 2011 show in London. Giles Deacon, who was recently tapped to be Ungaro’s newest head designer, managed to wrangle — to name a few – Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Coco Rocha, Agyness Deyn, and 71-year-old supermodel and icon, Verushka.
This isn’t actually news – we and about a million other sites covered it extensively back in April — but Ungaro has finally confirmed that they’ve tapped designer Giles Deacon to be their new creative director.
In what may be the most exciting news of the day, Ungaro has finally decided to clean up the mess that has surrounded the brand by hiring a new head designer who has actual design experience — what a concept. On Sunday, Fashionista spotted a tweet from JCReport editor Jason Campbell claiming designer Giles Deacon has officially been welcomed to the Ungaro family.
The already convoluted plot at Ungaro just got thicker. On Monday, Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah was spotted having lunch with Giles Deacon and, naturally, rumors ran rampant that he of the Triceratops bags was next in line to helm the plagued brand. There was one catch, though: designer Estrella Archs was still in place. But [...]
Stuffed animal purses, which rose to popularity in the late-90’s, have resurrected themselves and after seeing the triceratops bags on the Giles Spring 2010 runway a few months ago, I knew I’d need to find some way to get my hands on one without bringing my bank account to extinction. Luckily, I had a stray dinosaur plush ($14.99) that was begging to be gutted.
