Heidi Klum is the queen of Halloween, but she had to postpone her annual over-the-top bash due to Hurricane Sandy. This weekend, Klum was finally able to bust out her Cleopatra costume for her “Haunted Holiday Party” benefitting the American Red Cross.
While for many of us New Yorkers, lack of transportation and power meant last night’s Halloween festivities were pretty much confined to scary movie marathons at home, celebrities and fashion folk out on the West Coast and beyond celebrated the holiday in all its costumed glory.
If you’re still looking for a last-minute Halloween costume, well, look no further than Coco Rocha‘s slighty-scary-mostly-trippy video for Vs. Magazine.
While we’ve been giving you easy-peasy Halloween costume ideas, Anna Dello Russo, Padma Lakshmi, Heidi Klum, and more have been plotting their over-the-top ensembles. When it comes to dressing for Halloween, a simple store-bought costume just won’t do it for celebs, and a standout look requires lots of planning, hair extensions, and probably a fashion assistant or two.
Just like it wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa Claus or Fashion Week without an Anna Dello Russo sighting, it just wouldn’t feel quite like Halloween without Heidi Klum debuting another over-the-top costume to wear to her annual star-studded bash.
Halloween is just two short weeks away! Do you know what your costume is yet? If not (or even if so, since this is one holiday that never lasts just one day, does it?) we’ve compiled some inspiration from Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and the like over the years to give you a push in the right direction.
This was the week celebrities (and normal people) wore lots of Halloween costumes! This was also the week we talked to a few of our girlcrushes (Blake Lively! Alexa Chung! Mindy Kaling!), lamented offensive merchandise, and saw what Courtney Stodden looks like without makeup. Oh, yeah, and Kim Kardashian filed for divorce.
Celebrities: they’re just like us! They attend Halloween parties in silly costumes! Let’s look at them!
This was the week Halloween exploded all over everything, Ryan Gosling designed his own leather jackets, Jennifer Lopez got glamorous and Hillary Clinton wore a scrunchie. A really, really bad scrunchie.
So you know how Heidi Klum is fully obsessed with Halloween, and every year she has to have a costume that basically trumps everyone else’s costume as much as it can possibly be trumped? Yeah. Well this year, nothing’s changing.
Because Halloween just wouldn’t be complete without a royal wedding reference, there is now a Kate Middleton costume for your dog.
It’s the end of September, which means if you’re a person who actually plans things, you should have started your hunt for the perfect Halloween costume about a week ago. And while you’re sifting through mounds and mounds of top hats and Cleopatra headdresses, we think you should consider the one hat to rule them all: Princess Beatrice of York‘s royal wedding hat.
Call it a sign of the times, but you know Lady Gaga means something big when even Martha Stewart wants her makeup done like the Mother Monster’s.
Do you know what would just be the absolute best? If people stopped using anorexia jokes to make money, which is exactly what the people at costume and makeup shop Ricky’s had planned on doing this Halloween season.
We’re super jealous Hilary Moss over at HuffPost Style got to talk to style icon Dita Von Teese this week. Not surprisingly, the burlesque artist gives a pretty great interview, so we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite quotes. What did we learn from the inimitable Ms. Von Teese?
Everyone knows Marc Jacobs likes to rock manskirts and kilts on the regular, but it’s still a treat to see MJ done up in actual drag.
We’re going a little crazy for Halloween costumes today, and Heidi Klum‘s big bash hasn’t even happened yet! However, we may have just hit the jackpot. We’ve been wondering what Lady Gaga could possibly dress up as because, you know, she’s Lady Gaga. The answer? Cruella de Vil. Brilliant!
Happy Halloween, dear readers! This weekend has been a festive one, and it’s not over yet! While models have some pretty great costumes, we must say that fashion celebrities really take the cake when it comes to creativity. In fact, fashion celebs like to dress like other fashion celebs, which is all very meta but also fantastic.
In case Lady Gaga wasn’t already in the running to be this year’s most popular Halloween costume, a steakhouse in New York’s Meatpacking District is jumping on the bandwagon with their very own 112-pound meat dress, complete with marrow bone necklace and headdress.
Models get paid to look great in the clothes normal people wear everyday, so it only made sense to us that they would look absolutely fantastic in things we’d only wear once a year — like Halloween costumes. The gallery inside features all of our favorites: Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss among them, as well as a few names you might not recognize but who nevertheless shut it down regularly on All Hallows’ Eve.
