Last night, some fancy people (and Gayle King) gathered to honor the incomparable Bill Cunningham. Sarah Jessica Parker chaired the Medal of Excellence Gala alongside Oscar de la Renta, and she wore a vintage ODLR gown to the event.
And she liked it!
Are you sick of Karl yet? We’re not! This go ’round, he’s chatting with Vogue’s Hamish Bowles about his decision to launch a mid-priced collection, which is to say (in non-fashion speak): much cheaper than Chanel but still what most people would consider expensive.
Set your DVRs! At 9AM on Sunday, Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles will appear on CBS Sunday Morning to hype the new $1,600-a-year Vogue archive which, though awesome, seems like a strange subject for the CBS early Sunday morning audience. Then again, it’s Anna and her television appearances don’t come lightly. Luckily, Women’s Wear Daily got a preview of their convo, and it’s definitely worth the lost sleep.
We read all about Hamish Bowles‘s X Factor audition in this month’s Vogue, but nothing beats watching it unfold before your very eyes.
And Tom Ford‘s secret shows live on! We weren’t invited to his super exclusive spring 2012 show in London, but we know some people who were! Here’s what went down, according to our favorite fashion writers (and a certain star stylist). Oh, and we have PICTURES.
This year’s Met Gala celebrated the genius of Alexander McQueen. The Costume Institute‘s Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit opens tomorrow, and breathtaking doesn’t even begin to describe it. But more on that later! The Met Gala is arguably the most fashionable event of the year, so it’s no surprise than many of the A-list guests dressed in keeping with the fashionable McQueen theme.
Hamish Bowles is like, the dandiest dandy who ever dandied. Ever. He’s the word dandy personified, and he proved that tonight on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala. Bowles wore a tartan tuxedo complete with an embellished cape and patent leather shoes with beaded tassels at the event, which is chaired by his boss, Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
We thought we were done laughing our faces off at Hamish Bowles‘ story about basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire, but we were sorely mistaken. The behind-the-scenes video from Bowles’ game of one-on-one (and contingent photoshoot) with the New York Knicks forward is as hilarious as the profile in the the April issue of Vogue.
We’ve been waiting with bated breath for Knicks player Amar’e Stoudemire’s long-rumored Vogue feature and now it’s finally here. And in what can only be described as the cherry on top of our sports beat cake, the piece was written by european editor at large Hamish Bowles — who you might remember from last summer’s essay on surfing with Blake Lively and who, in this instance, submits himself to a training session and a game of one-on-one basketball with the 6 foot, eight inch phenom.
In a weirdly full-circle bit of timing, Amar’e Stoudemire has made good on a rumor that circulated during Spring Fashion Week by being photographed for Vogue on the eve of Fall Fashion Week. Anna Wintour has been courting the dapper basketballer for some time now, inviting him to Fashion’s Night Out and assorted other stylish events.
Whatever Anna Wintour wants, Anna Wintour gets. So it’s reasonable to expect that New York Knicks forward center Amar’e Stoudemire will grace the cover of Vogue at some point relatively soon.
Gossip Girl will have two episodes next season focused around Anna Wintour‘s Fashion’s Night Out event — and that’s not all. The show and the fashion bible are about to have a lot more in common than a love of clothes.
One of the best features of Vogue’s June issue — besides an envy-inducing spread of Blake Lively modeling beachwear — might be European editor-at-large Hamish Bowles’ essay on his two-day surf camp experience, in preparation for the aforementioned photoshoot, lensed by Mario Testino, captained by Tonne Goodman and featuring apparent surf god Rob Machado, whose name alone sounds like nothing so much as a delicious Mexican-inspired cocktail.
