Helena Bonham Carter Page 1
Prada pulled a fast one on the fabulous people at Cannes by surprising them with a short (and charming) fashion film.
Did the ladies at last night’s London Dark Shadows premiere call each other to discuss what they would wear to the
red purple carpet?
If there ever were two people who we imagined spending weekends together in a rundown Victorian hideaway having dress-up tea parties and impromptu photoshoots, it’s Helena Bonham Carter and Marc Jacobs. Has there ever been two people more alike in their eccentricities? We’ll answer that: no. Which is why we were literally astounded to find out that the two have never even met.
Because one Juergen Teller-lensed shot of Helena Bonham Carter doing strange things for a Marc Jacobs ad campaign is never enough, there are now two — except in this case, instead of smiling knock-kneed at the camera, she’s sticking her tongue out and covered with measles. Wait, what?
This was the week of the CFDA Awards — so much fashion, people! There was also a fair amount of fashion at the German state dinner (Michelle Obama, duh). Marc Jacobs‘s ad campaigns were on our mind, as were Kanye West‘s dead model video and Karl Lagerfeld‘s glassware. And, as usual, Kate/Princess Catherine/Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge/whateverhernameis looked stunning.
This is the stuff lifetime achievement awards are made of. Word has it that Marc Jacobs, fresh from winning perhaps the coolest CFDA award earlier this week, picked actress Helena Bonham Carter to be the face of his fall campaign.
If there is one absolute when it comes to red carpet fashion, it’s that Helena Bonham Carter never looks boring. Though we almost dismissed her Oscars getup as tame, she pulled up her dress a bit and we realized we were totally wrong.
Here’s the thing. While some celebs play it safe on the red carpet, others understand that an event like the Golden Globes is the perfect opportunity to make a statement. And whether that statement is, “I’m too old and too good an actor to mess about with gowns that are absurdly luxurious” or “Most men’s tuxedos are just plain boring, so I’m going to mix it up” — or even “I’m wearing two different colored shoes and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it” — the five actors in this slideshow made big splashes. And they looked really good doing it. And the best part? Some of them weren’t even nominated!
There were all sorts of events last night (the Hollywood Awards Gala, the Glamour Reel Moments event, the London Film Festival), which means lots and lots of red carpet action. We’ve combed through hundreds of pictures to bring you some of the highlights. Let us know who you think stunned (and who should be shunned)!
