Last nights, the fashion industry’s most accessory-savvy designers and stars descended upon Cipriani 42nd Street for the 17th annual Accessories Council ACE Awards.
Racism on the runway is one of, if not the controversy on everyone’s lips this fashion month. Between the outspoken models in the minority, and Jezebel crunching the startling numbers of New York Fashion Week’s catwalks, it’s become clear that while much hasn’t changed on the white-washed runway front, the number of those unwilling to tolerate is fervently rising.
Despite being a supermodel, businesswoman and oh, Mrs. David Bowie, Iman is perhaps the highest-profile of under-the-radar stars. So it’s a real treat when the 57-year-old icon makes an appearance, especially one with her wind machine-blown hair and crazy-fantastic skin in full force.
Whether in a flash of genius over brunch with friends or in an MBA classroom, just about everyone has mulled over the idea of starting a business. Last night, Glamour celebrated women who are making it happen with “Secrets of Start-Up Queens” at the 92Y, and a panel of heavyweight experts: Iman, who founded her cosmetics and skincare line in 1994, Dylan Lauren, founder and CEO of Dylan’s Candy Bar, social media maestro Coco Rocha, Refinery29′s Piera Gelardi, and SoulCycle co-founder Elizabeth Cutler. Aspiring entrepreneurs, take heed: these women really know what they’re talking about.
Models past and present hit the town last night in New York City — those that weren’t across the pond gearing up for Milan Fashion Week, that is.
At yesterday’s Women’s Wear Daily Beauty Summit, supermodel turned beauty mogul Iman schooled a room full of insiders on the marginalization of women of color when it comes to marketing, product availability, and running an irrefutably successful business.
We didn’t find out who’s going to win The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection when we had lunch with its finalists Calvin Tran, Dominique Pearl David and Jeffrey Williams yesterday, but we did learn a lot about the designers and what we’ll be seeing on the season finale tonight.
There’s nothing like a good supermodel interview to start your lunch hour off right. In the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the ever amazing Simon Doonan interviews 55-year-old Iman who, as you might have already suspected, offers up plenty bon mots about her daily routine, on hazing younger models, and why she’s envious of Michelle Obama.
Last night, fashion’s boldest and brightest came out to celebrate the honorees and recipients of the 2010 Accessories Council Excellence Awards which are also and more pithily known as the ACE Awards. And at a show where Alber Elbaz is awarded Designer of the Year, Paper’s Kim Hastreiter is given the Marylou Luther Award for Fashion Journalism, and Kanye West is dubbed Tastemaker of the Year, you can expect the red carpet to be off the chain. Let’s take a look!
On Monday, we confessed to being dog people brought you pictures of designers with their four-legged friends. And now, we bring you models with their dogs! We don’t know if it’s because models prefer their dogs to be as petite and cute as they are or because these pictures were taken shortly after these ladies got their dogs, but most of the photos feature really small pooches. Linda Evangelista‘s Enzo is the medium-sized dog in our gallery, but that doesn’t make him any less adorable than the others!
It seems that the 18th floor of the Standard Hotel is getting even more fashion forward. Iman, who recently received the Fashion Icon CFDA award has given her trophy to the hotel, where it currently sits behind the bar…
On Monday night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America will award the super gorgeous supermodel Iman with its Fashion Icon award. And we can’t think of anyone who’s more deserving.
Last month, we heard rumors that Bravo was replacing Kelly Rowland as the host of its ailing “Project Runway” replacement, “The Fashion Show.” Initial reports pointed to Brazilian stunner and Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio, but the real replacement has blown even our wildest expectations out of the water.
Zulekha Haywood, the daughter of mono-named supermodel Iman, recently opened up to Glamour about her weight struggles. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it wasn’t easy growing up overweight with one of the world’s most successful models as a mom.
After seeing Cindy Crawford’s to-die-for spread in UK Harper’s Bazaar, it occurred to us that supermodels never seemed to age. Naturally, we put our intrepid interns on the job and discovered, well, it’s a fact: they’ve either got the genes, the money, or the most incredible plastic surgeons in the world because these ladies are starting to look younger and younger every day.
To be inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America is like winning an Oscar. And just like the nominations for the Academy Awards, the fashion community waits breathlessly to discover who is to be honored and, more importantly, who is to be recognized as the latest and greatest in fashion.
